Integrative Medicine is a rapidly growing field of medicine that seeks to integrate the best of western scientific medicine with the wisdom of complementary practices, including clinical nutrition, acupuncture, herbal, botanical and vitamin supplement therapies, manual techniques, energy healing and mind/body medicine.
Integrative Medicine practiced at the Center, under the direction of Dr. Ronald Stram brings together experienced physicians alongside complementary therapists who are appropriately trained and certified.
Our therapists have been selected carefully for their skill and sensitivity in order to provide the highest quality of care to our patients.
Dr. Heidi Puc is especially unique to the field of cancer as her expertise is both in traditional cancer treatment including the most up to date chemotherapy medications and radiation treatment as well as complementary cancer therapies, such as IV Vitamin C. Her unique position in oncology gives her the edge that most patients are looking for on how to integrate all the best forms of therapy in the treatment of cancer.
Dr. Stram is honored to have Heidi as part of his team.
The emphasis at the Center is our team approach in the care of our patients to provide the most effective treatment, respecting the medical wisdom across disciplines.
Management of the Cancer Patient at the Stram Center
In coordination with Dr. Stram and Dr. Puc, treatment plans are developed for the cancer patient with the goal of enhancing conventional cancer therapies (chemotherapy and radiation) and include:
- Review of caloric and diet history; establishing individualized nutrition assessment and dietary plans to optimize energy levels and maintain lean body mass
Supplementation Therapies Including Vitamins, Herbs and Botanicals to:
- stimulate and increase immune system function
- encourage cellular repair and regeneration
- accelerate the process of recovery
- provide preventative immune support
- inhibit disease progression
- enhance treatment efficacy
- bolster cancer-fighting capacity
Nutrition is an essential piece of an optimal health plan for anyone battling cancer, or looking to prevent cancer. Current research estimates that between 35% to 60% of cancer cases can be linked back to dietary factors alone. This is more than tobacco, air/water pollution, alcohol, radiation, and medications combined.
Our nutritionist, Holly Niles,MS, CNS, LDN can develop an individualized plan to help minimize treatment side effects, while maximizing the benefits of the treatment. She will develop a nutrition and supplement plan to boost/support the immune system, fight the cancer at the cellular level, and change the very environment that may be fueling the cancer.
