Founder of The Center, Board Certified Medical Doctor, Integrative and Functional Medicine
For the past 25 years, my work as an emergency medicine physician prompted me to recognize the need for holistic and preventative care as a means to reduce the debilitation associated with chronic disease so often seen too late in the emergency setting.

As I journeyed through my 20 years as a medical oncologist/hematologist in private practice, I increasingly recognized the deficiencies of the purely disease-oriented approach followed in allopathic medicine, both in what patients expressed to me and in what I had experienced in this system of care.

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with the human body. When I was a child, I recall having a lot of fear about going to the doctor. As I grew up, I found myself having a special connection with doctors and nurses that had compassion and empathy. They were able to take away my fear and show me the positive side of medicine.

Since I was a child, I have always been fascinated by medicine. Whether it was playing with the skeleton or a reflex hammer in my father’s office, getting that toy doctor bag as a Christmas present or dressing up as a doctor for Halloween, I knew I was destined to become a doctor!

My interest in the healing arts began at an early age. As a young girl, I spent many an hour with my great grandmother, tending to her aches and pains with medicated balms and soothing words, delighted to provide her a bit of comfort.

My interest in Chinese Medicine began as a teenager while considering Allopathic Medicine as a career. During this time my fascination in reading philosophical works from different cultures was blooming. Along with a deep interest in herbal medicine, these holistic and natural views on life and health are what inspired me to pursue the study of Chinese Medicine.
Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a healer. When I was young that meant being a medical doctor or chiropractor. Through my undergraduate training in Biology at the University of Virginia, I planned on going to medical school.
I started to have a really strong interest in integrative medicine and the power of food when I was a teenager. Having been put on a diet at eight years old, followed by multiple “diets” through my teens, I started to be curious about food and how to use food for health.

My physical therapy career began at the young age of 3 when teaching my brother to walk around the kitchen table holding the chair legs. In that moment, my passion for assisting another person to experience the joy of movement was awakened!
My personal health history and unfortunate circumstances with my child, has shaped my path in life and inspired me to choose a career in the health field.
At a young age I was fascinated by what the human body was capable of. Despite being of small stature I was able to excel in various sports; basketball, baseball and football. My love, determination and passion for these sports helped me overcome what would be considered physical limitations. It was during this period that I developed the habits that have allowed me to remain at a high fitness level, well throughout my life.

In 1996, after a diagnosis of weight gain, high cholesterol, and elevated blood pressure, I faced the realization that my current lifestyle would not sustain the life I had I had envisioned and planned for myself and my family. I embarked on a course of physical exercise and was introduced to hatha yoga, and it’s natural extension, meditation.
