Janna Neitzel, MS, RD, CDN

Masters of Science, Registered Dietitian, Certified Dietitian Nutritionist

Always having interest in the medical field and planning to go into nursing, I was first drawn to nutrition as a young athlete. My love of running and nutrition have always gone hand in hand and when I first started long distance running competitively in middle school I became enthralled with the performance enhancement of quality nutrition provides. The more I looked into nutrition research the more I became amazed at how vital it is in every aspect of life and health—from cancer prevention and treatment to feeling your best in your own skin; your “life vessel.”

I’ve been incredibly blessed to have known what I wanted to study and be from an early age, first completing my BS in from RIT, then my MS at Sage Graduate School; both in nutrition. The graduate work and experience really highlighted my passion of individualized nutrition counseling, working with people on a personal level and finding together what best suits their needs.

I’m incredibly humbled and excited to be joining the Stram team and to be a part of the healing journey for each individual. With an extensive background I hope to facilitate the best care for each person, using nutrition therapies to compliment other wellness and treatment protocol. With a sweet spot for gastrointestinal or gut health, I believe everything starts in the gut and strengthening or repairing this vital and intricate system is a key component.

Having worked in community nutrition, food service management and as a college campus dietitian, I’m very comfortable presenting and sharing nutrition science in an accessible way to incorporate small (and not-so-small) changes for powerful impact. Change is hard for most of us but having someone on your team to problem solve, encourage, and equip you with the tools needed to feel better makes all the difference. For this reason I also enjoy teaching basic cooking skills to those I work with so they’re able to nourish their bodies and minds with the highest quality ingredients as an act of self love and care.

Some areas I specialize in include food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities, eating disorders and disordered eating, disease prevention and treatment (including Lyme, diabetes, and heart disease, to name a few), gastrointestinal complications, weight loss and healthy weight management, stress management and sports nutrition for performance.

While nutrition is a main focus in my treatment approach, I also take inventory of one’s core needs and how their being met. These include sleep, connection, nature, rest and relaxation, joy, passion and meaning, and movement/exercise.

I continue to explore avenues that will expand my knowledge of medical nutrition therapy as treatment and prevention in addition to staying informed on relevant research topics in health promotion and disease prevention. As a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a board member of the Hudson Valley Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, I enjoy connecting with other dietitians and medical professionals, furthering our collective knowledge and enhancing our skillsets as clinicians. As I learn your story I look forward to piecing together the best path toward healing and taking that journey with you.
