WHAT TO EXPECT
Medical Marijuana is a very effective pain management tool that was introduced to New York State in 2015. It is an excellent symptom control option for patients who meet NYS qualifying conditions who have not adequately benefited from conventional pharmaceutical interventions, or for those who have failed other treatment options to aid in pain management.
The Stram Center is pleased to be able to prescribe medical marijuana to certain populations of patients, meeting required NYS mandated criteria.
The human body has an endocannabinoid system, comprised of receptors or binding sites for cannabinoid substances which are either made in the body or taken in from outside the body. Receptors are primarily located in the brain and immune system, and most important with regard to pain management, are anti-inflammatory - is a main source of pain reduction in many individuals.
Patients interested in making a Medical Marijuana appointment must understand the following:
- NYS has determined eligible conditions that qualify patients for medical marijuana, and one must meet these current criteria in order to be prescribed:
- Primary diagnosis of - Cancer, HIV/AIDS, ALS, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal cord injury with spasticity, Epilepsy, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Neuropathy, and Huntington’s disease; with Secondary condition of - Cachexia or wasting syndrome, severe or chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, severe or persistent muscle spasms.
- If your chronic pain is associated with any of these primary conditions, you may be eligible for a prescription for medical marijuana
- The length of your consultation appointment to determine eligibility is dependent upon providing the following medical records: CBC, CMP, history and physical with vitals from the last three months and diagnosis from a referring physician.
