For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with the human body. When I was a child, I recall having a lot of fear about going to the doctor. As I grew up, I found myself having a special connection with doctors and nurses that had compassion and empathy. They were able to take away my fear and show me the positive side of medicine.
I decided early on that my love for health and wellness combined with my desire to comfort people needed to be my focus. That’s when I chose to become a nurse.
During my training in nursing school I became increasingly frustrated with the conventional approach to medicine. I felt like I was dispensing medication in excess and not really knowing if these medications were making people better or just a band aid for their symptoms. It wasn’t that people were deficient in certain medications…right? There has to be a reason WHY they are sick. I wanted to learn how to figure out the WHY.
I had the privilege of working at Canyon Ranch in Lenox MA, in their Integrative Medical department right out of nursing school. It was at Canyon Ranch that I learned how to approach health in an integrative way. Our philosophy was to assess and make recommendations that target the mind, body and spirit; all of which are very necessary in obtaining optimal health. Simultaneously, I worked in the ICU at St. Peter’s hospital. As a new nurse I felt that it was important for me to have the hospital experience, which ended up being extremely valuable.
After 12 years of being a nurse, I was ready to take it the next level. That’s when I decided to go back to school and become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I was lucky enough to join the team at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox MA, founded by Dr. Mark Hyman. I continue to work there in addition to working with Dr. Ronald Stram and his team at The Stram Center. I feel so blessed to work with the most amazing practitioners and practice the medicine that I truly believe in.Experience:
